Work in Progress The black ink coats the side of his right hand. Rip, tear, crumple playing on repeat throughout the small space every five minutes. The ripples of wood are hidden by his failures, as he sees them. Another joins its kin on the desk, while others rest on the beige tile, not quite melting away and camouflaging like he wished they would. A knock followed by a soft muffled voice go unnoticed, taken over by rip, tear, crumple, the mantra he thinks represents his work. The turn of the knob and the creak of the door is ignored in favor of flinging his mistakes onto the tile and replacing them with himself and his tea

Are you worthy? Tell me, what is the point of getting lost in your work when it can’t compare? Your work is novice at best, while those who surround you create art that is praised by the master as ready to be published? Are you really worthy to be there? Enthusiasm can only get you so far, but you don’t even try because you’re a fucking mess. You break down in class as much as you do outside. If you can’t even keep it professional, do you deserve the chance to learn from a teacher so gifted? No, You need to do better, get better, before you’ll have the opportunity to improve.

A Memory I can’t remember the little events that make people chuckle in fondness or smile gently. It makes me feel as if I am lacking the part that makes me human. As I sit on green clastic coated in bird shit still as stone as they all walk by, I wonder what they can remember And what exactly it is that makes them feel, what their bodies and minds contain that mine does not. Her Homecoming I lie down in the tall grasses, waiting Unable to move forward until her return, Unable to move backward to a familiar place. Curling into myself, I shudder As branches groan and leaves shake And monsters howl in my waking nightmare. I need her to protect me From the wolves of the world Disguised as sheep that I cannot see. But I am stuck, consumed by the thought That she will not come back to me. I still have my white spots and unsteady legs, no antlers grown I tell myself she will find her way back to me, But I have no way of knowing. All I can do Is wait.

Our Bouquet Rose: Mystery She rests there, a book on her lap, blossoms from the weeping cherry decorating her wispy hair. She continues, undisturbed by the rotating movement around her, while I stand captured by her presence. As I wait sentinel, she lifts her head and her gaze reaches mine.
